NLCA’s Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program (KDSAP) recently provided free kidney health screenings to 44 South DeKalb residents—a powerful step in promoting early detection and long-term wellness in our community.

With the leadership of Dr. Jason Cobb and the remarkable support of 22 future physicians and two dedicated providers from Emory, the event offered neighbors more than just basic tests. Participants received kidney function screenings, blood pressure and glucose checks, weight and BMI measurements, and most importantly, the opportunity to sit down for personalized consultations with Emory physicians. These one-on-one conversations gave participants insight into their current health and next steps for care—whether it be preventive action or follow-up support.

Each individual who participated received a $25 gift card as a thank-you for taking charge of their health. But the real reward was the peace of mind and practical knowledge they walked away with—an important reminder that early detection saves lives, and access to care shouldn’t be a privilege, but a right.

At NLCA, we believe health equity begins at the local level. Events like these are part of our ongoing mission to bring vital resources directly to the neighborhoods that need them most. We’re incredibly grateful to Dr. Cobb, the Emory team, and all who helped make this event possible.

Most of all, we thank every neighbor who showed up, asked questions, and took a proactive step toward better health. You inspire the work we do.
