Where the unemployment rate is 2.6% higher than the state average, the high school dropout rate is 21.5%, 24.8% of the children live in poverty, and 48% of families are financially unstable. Approximately 95% of our clients are African American.

The majority of the people we serve are individuals and families living at or below the federal poverty guidelines, defined as $15,060 in annual household income for an individual and $31,200 for a household of four. Many of our community members are hourly, not salaried, employees, or are on fixed incomes due to retirement or disability. Our community includes many single parent households, seniors raising grandchildren, and the homeless.
