In 2024, James Sanders arrived at the New Life Warming Station with one goal in mind: to build a better future for his young daughter, Lovette. Even while facing significant challenges, his love for her and his commitment to her education were clear.

“Even in the midst of hardship, he remained focused on her well-being and education. Their interaction was powerful and refreshing,” shares Carolyn Watson of H.O.M.E. Inc. With support from H.O.M.E. Inc., James and Lovette soon moved into a house of their own. It quickly became more than just a place to stay. Volunteers helped transform it into a true home, thoughtfully furnishing it to create a space filled with stability, comfort, and joy.

Determined to keep moving forward, James found steady work with DeKalb County Sanitation and received a donated car from a New Life Church member, helping him better provide for his family. What started as a personal skill in barbering began to grow into a bigger dream.

Today, he is enrolling in barber school, and he has already been giving back by offering free haircuts through the New Life barbershop and beauty salon.

This year, James and Lovette came full circle. They returned to volunteer at the same Warming Station that once gave them shelter and hope.

James’s story is still unfolding, shaped by his perseverance and the community that continues to walk alongside him.
