Earlier this October, NLCA had the honor of being a service site during Hands on Atlanta Week 2025. This week reminded us what’s possible when people show up for each other, and we’re so thankful to have been a part of it.

A team of 22 volunteers from The Same House and Hands on Atlanta rolled up their sleeves at our Garment of Grace Clothing Store to sort, organize, and hang clothing for the NLCA community. With care, they prepared the Garments of Grace clothing store, ensuring that dignity is always part of the shopping experience. Their presence wasn’t just helpful; it was transformative.

Now in its 36th year, Hands On Atlanta Week is the city’s largest service initiative. It is a powerful testament to what can happen when compassion meets collaboration. At the heart of this effort are the shared values of Hands On Atlanta and The Same House: unity, equity, and community engagement. This year, they teamed up to send volunteers to over 200 projects at 50 nonprofits and schools throughout metro Atlanta. Their spirit of partnership and service came to life on NLCA’s campus.

For NLCA, this story actually began back in August when The Same House recognized NLCA at their annual Beloved Benefit. This was an evening dedicated to uplifting the people and organizations who help shape a better, more unified Atlanta. Not only did they honor our mission, they backed it with a generous grant to deepen the impact in South DeKalb.

Their investment in NLCA continued with this October service project, and even included a $10,000 grant from Hands on Atlanta to support our clothing store operations. These funds will help NLCA improve storage systems and stock more socks and undergarments, which are often the items our neighbors request the most.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to The Same House and Hands on Atlanta for linking arms with NLCA. Because of their partnership, our neighbors will continue to find clothing, care, and community at Garments of Grace.

Volunteer at the Garments of Grace Clothing Store and continue the legacy of helping our neighbors with grace and dignity.
