Letters from a New Life: Leonard’s Journey

At New Life Community Alliance (NLCA), we believe in the power of transformation: every person, no matter where they start, is worthy of hope and a new beginning. Whether someone needs housing, shelter, after-school care, clothing, or health resources, we meet them where they are and walk with them toward something better.

This winter, as cold nights deepen and hardship becomes more visible, our hearts are especially drawn to those without a place to call home. That’s why NLCA’s Warming Station is open seven days a week, offering warmth, safety, and support when it’s needed most.

Every once in a while, someone who once walked through our doors shares how their story has changed. Below, you’ll hear from Leonard Jackson, a former guest at our Warming Station, who has found a new life.

We’re honored to share Leonard’s powerful story in his own words.

Leonard’s Letter: My Story of Hope and Renewal

When I was homeless, New Life Community Alliance (NLCA) gave me hope and strengthened my faith. I had a place to stay, nutritious meals to eat, and nice clothes to wear. But it was more than just a shelter — it was a place where I found dignity, support, and a community that helped me grow and thrive.

I struggled with addiction for 30 years, but since coming to New Life, I no longer have the urge to use. Through God’s grace and the support I’ve received, my life has truly been transformed.

I went from the New Life Warming Station to The Salvation Army Transitional Housing, and this year I am NOT back at the Warming Station — but this time, I have my own place right down the street from the church!

I owe it all to God!

A New Life, A New Legacy

Now, Leonard not only has a new place but he is also a committed volunteer at NLCA’s Barbershop, spreading joy to our South DeKalb community.

Leonard’s story is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. For every person who finds shelter at our Warming Station, there’s the potential for healing, growth, and a future rooted in stability and joy.

If you feel moved to help more neighbors like Leonard, our Warming Station is our greatest area of need. Volunteers are pivotal to ensuring guest comfort, peace, and safety. Click here to sign up and be part of someone’s journey to a new life.
