Carolyn Watson’s journey with NLCA began long before it became the organization we know today. As a dedicated member of New Life Church for nearly 25 years, Carolyn witnessed the evolution of NLCA from its early days. Her vision for helping those in need crystallized into H.O.M.E. Inc. back in 2014, driven by a heartfelt mission to support single mothers.

“I didn’t know really how I was going to help single moms, but all of a sudden there was a need,” Carolyn recalls. “And once they got into an apartment or a home, we would provide everything they needed to start life anew.” Her organization’s mission was clear: to ensure that families wouldn’t have to choose between food and furniture.” We wanted to lift that burden, so they wouldn’t have to be struggling month after month.”

When Carolyn encountered James and his young daughter’s story, Lovette, at a church event, she was moved to action. “What won me over about him was his passion for raising his daughter by himself,” Carolyn says. “Even in the midst of hardship, he remained focused on her well-being and education. Their interaction was powerful and refreshing.”

With H.O.M.E. Inc.’s support, James and Lovette’s new house was transformed into a home full of love and care. The space was thoughtfully furnished, turning it from a mere shelter into a vibrant, inviting home. Every detail was chosen to uplift Lovette’s spirits and provide a sense of stability.

Carolyn’s dedication to both single mothers and single fathers like James highlights the strength of community partnerships. NLCA’s relationship with organizations like H.O.M.E. impacts the work we can do together to support families in need. “None of us have really done anything great in the world until we’ve done something gracious to impact the lives of others,” Carolyn believes.

James and Lovette’s story is a testament to the power of such collaborations. Carolyn’s passion and commitment have helped create a brighter, more hopeful future for many. As she often says, “To God be the glory.”
