Daily Shelter, Meals, and Showers Provided Through March for South DeKalb Residents Experiencing Housing Insecurity

DECATUR, Ga. (January 8, 2026) — As temperatures drop this winter, New Life Community Alliance (NLCA) has opened its Warming Station to provide daily shelter and meals to individuals experiencing housing insecurity in South DeKalb. The Warming Station has been open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. since January 6 and will remain open through March 31. The Warming Station is the only facility in DeKalb County open seven days a week, regardless of weather conditions.

“We know that homelessness in DeKalb County disproportionately affects the Black community,” shares Michael Bryant, CEO of NLCA. “Our neighbors in South DeKalb deserve a safe, warm place to turn. Now in our second year of daily winter operations, we’ve expanded our capacity, with refurbished showers and additional cots.”

NLCA’s Warming Station is located at 3592 Flat Shoals Road, Building 2 (GYM), Decatur, GA 30034. The station operates on a first-come, first-served basis with up to 30 beds available daily. Each guest will receive three meals (dinner, breakfast, and lunch to go), cots with bedding, hygiene kits, and access to clean showers. Additionally, NLCA is partnering with the DeKalb County Health Department to provide health screenings, referrals, and wellness checks for guests throughout the season.

To maintain a safe and welcoming environment, armed security will be present overnight. Alcohol, weapons, smoking, and the sharing of prescription drugs are strictly prohibited. All restricted items will be stored securely by staff during the guest’s stay.

According to national data, approximately one in five people experiencing homelessness is age 55 or older, making older adults one of the fastest-growing groups in need of shelter and services. NLCA witnessed this firsthand during last year’s Warming Station season: 86% of guests served were seniors. This trend highlights a growing crisis in South DeKalb and underscores the urgent need for daily, accessible shelter for vulnerable neighbors.

“At NLCA, our Warming Station is more than shelter – it’s about restoring dignity, one neighbor at a time,” said Bryant. “We are proud to continue serving as a trusted resource for those experiencing hardship in South DeKalb.”
