How to Support People Experiencing Homelessness in South DeKalb This Winter
In Georgia, the coldest months of the year are January and February. While some people cozy up with blankets and hot beverages, too many neighbors in South DeKalb face the bitter cold without the basic comforts of shelter and security.
This winter, you can change that.
Fresh off the warmth of the holidays, New Life Community Alliance is preparing to open its Warming Station – a haven for people experiencing homelessness or hardship. The Warming Station provides lodging and warm meals for our community. For many, the station becomes a doorway to restoration, connecting neighbors with case management and wraparound support. Just ask James and Lovette, a father and daughter who found a new beginning at the Warming Station.
From January 6 through the end of March, NLCA’s doors will be open daily from 7 AM to 7 PM, offering warmth, connection, and compassion.

This winter season, NLCA needs your help!
Volunteers are at the heart of this effort. When you serve, your presence brings more than physical comforts. In the words of James, volunteers help make the station “a home away from home.”
Volunteer Shifts Available Daily
- 6 PM – 8 PM
- 8 PM – 10 PM
- 6 AM – 8 AM
While security is on site overnight, volunteer presence is vital during these key hours. Whether you’re greeting guests, serving warm drinks, setting up cots, or sharing a smile, your two hours could be life-changing.

Real People. Real Impact.
Last winter, 86% of the Warming Station’s guests were seniors. Many came to NLCA alongside veterans, families with young children, and neighbors living with disabilities. Your support helped us provide:
- Safe, temporary shelter
- Hot meals and snacks
- Essential clothing and hygiene supplies

Alongside shelter and meals, NLCA also offered something deeply meaningful: peace of mind.
This year, the need will be just as great. And so is the opportunity to serve. Together, we can ensure that no one faces winter’s chill alone.
