NLCA Celebrates Board Member Dr. Alan Ferguson’s Appointment as DeKalb County’s Chief Housing Officer

New Life Community Alliance’s leadership is rooted in both expertise and compassion has the power to transform communities. This week, we celebrate one of our own living out that truth in an extraordinary way, as DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson recently appointed Dr. Alan Ferguson, Sr. as the County’s new Chief Housing Officer.

A native of South DeKalb, Dr. Ferguson brings decades of experience and a proven record of impact to this role. Most recently, as Chief Housing & Real Estate Officer for the Atlanta Housing Authority, he oversaw efforts that delivered over 3,200 affordable housing units in a single fiscal year, advancing both the agency’s 10,000-unit goal and the City of Atlanta’s broader 20,000-unit target.

Previously, as President & CEO of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, Dr. Ferguson revitalized the organization’s production post-COVID, expanded funding streams, and implemented development strategies that better met the needs of working families. His tenure at Invest Atlanta saw millions invested into community development and housing policy advancement across the city.

In his new role, Dr. Ferguson will lead DeKalb County’s comprehensive housing strategy – focusing on expanding affordable, workforce, and transitional housing, forging strong partnerships, and developing innovative financing tools to ensure sustainable growth.

“DeKalb County shaped who I am,” Dr. Ferguson shared. “I’m committed to ensuring families across our county have access to stable, affordable housing and the opportunity to thrive.”

From all of us at NLCA: Congratulations, Dr. Ferguson! We are proud to serve alongside you and to see your leadership shaping the future of our community.
