Community Story: New Life Community Alliance Holiday Season of Giving

This holiday season, New Life Community Alliance (NLCA) is demonstrating the power of compassion and connection through two cornerstone events: the recently completed Community Thanksgiving Foodbox Giveaway and the upcoming Community Christmas Breakfast. Together, these annual celebrations underscore the Alliance’s commitment to both meeting immediate needs and promoting long-term wellness for families across Decatur and beyond.

On November 15, the Alliance hosted its annual Community Thanksgiving Foodbox Giveaway right when neighbors needed it most. With food prices soaring, SNAP benefits tightening, and Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies dwindling, the need was real. Here’s what was accomplished:

  • 3,351 households received Thanksgiving food boxes
  • 772 community walk-ups were welcomed
  • 223 volunteers dedicated their time and energy

Families left not only with holiday meals, but also with resources to support healthier living. Community members received vital health information through the Grady Mobile Clinic. NLCA’s Kidney Coach initiative, sponsored by the American Kidney Fund, provided kidney-specific education materials. Together, these efforts turned a day of giving into a step toward lasting wellness.

On Saturday, December 13, the Annual Community Christmas Breakfast will continue the season of giving by serving more than 300 residents, including vulnerable neighbors in the 30034 and 30032 ZIP codes. Guests will enjoy a full-service hot southern breakfast in a festive atmosphere filled with decorations, music, and community spirit.

Children will receive toys to brighten their holiday, while adults will be gifted small items to ensure everyone feels included. Health education and outreach will also be provided by DeKalb Public Health and NLCA’s Kidney Coach initiative, reinforcing the Alliance’s focus on holistic support.

Together, these two events embody the Alliance’s mission: to provide nourishment, joy, and vital health resources when families need them most. By combining food assistance, festive celebration, and practical health education, New Life Community Alliance ensures that the holidays are not only about tradition but also about resilience, hope, and community wellness.
